3D modeling using SolidWorks, 2D drawings using DraftSight, mechanical design, dimensioned drawings, assembly, documentation, marketing

Description

My primary role at DOT was to design custom sensor mounts and shrouds, create 3D models from the senior engineer’s 2D drawings, generate dimensioned drawings for machine shops to fabricate parts, and assemble parts once fabricated. I would also generate renders for marketing purposes. The dimensioned drawings are protected by NDA but I can share the renders.

I would also create operations manuals for our products such as the V-wings shown below. I would typically create a generic manual showing standard operating practices and procedures as well as all parts with our reference numbers. I would then add sections as needed for custom components. I was responsible for maintaining a database of our hardware/parts/drawings both digitally and physically.

The V-wing body, tow point, and fins were not designed by me.

Technical Details

SolidWorks 2020 was used for all 3D modeling and dimensioned drawings. DraftSight was used to view/modify designs from the senior engineer. Microsoft Word was used to generate manuals. Microsoft Excel was used for tracking parts and drawings and creating BoMs.
